We have friends who are really so good at cleaning things out, getting rid of the unnecessary and keeping a clutter-free home that people who know them call ruthless deep-cleaning "Beckerizing". Today, we began our pre-move beckerization. The difficulty is that there is not enough time to both beckerize and pack. It has lead to quite a bit of angst and slowed the process down quite a bit. However, I will do my best so that our 14K lbs that we are moving (mostly) by ourselves will become a measly 13.5K.

Harder, but you can always beckerize at the other end. Yes, you did just move that tonnage, but at least it's gone.
I think this kind of term is called "eponymous", since it is taken from the name of some person.

Rachel, Since you have HALF the tonnage that we moved to VA I would say you are doing a GREAT job of beckerizing. We need an original Becker here at our house. It just never seems to get better. I worked on the playroom for one hour today and only threw out three small boxes (really small) with odds and ends. I need someone to cull whole categories.
Besides, eliminating 500 lbs is something in the neighborhood of 30 fewer boxes. That's a lot of steps carrying in and out of the house and the truck and the house that you save. Plus you are moving into a larger place. It will feel HUGE and you will have no problem finding places to put things away. Promise. I still have several thousand lbs in storage to look forward to when we leave here. Okay. I have to go cry now.
