Family Rosary, Oct. 25, 2019

 Family Rosary, any given Thursday

Pius Pia, daily rosary prayer: The first Luminous mystery is the wedding feast of Cana. Our...
Bill [interrupting]: No.
PP [looking like she was splashed with cold water]: Hunh??
Bill: That's not the first luminious mystery. What happened before the wedding at Cana?
PP: I know, the resurrection!
Bill: No. It happened *before* the wedding.
PP: The ascension! ...the nativity? That was before, right? Um...
Bill: Do you need another hint?
PP: NO. Umm.... ... ....... Oh. The baptism in the Jordan River.
Teen brother [sotto voce, but not really] : Nailed it.

Family Rosary, a different Thursday
Bill [holding up a $20 bill]: Who wants to lead the rosary? What's the first Luminous Mystery?
All hands go up. He starts calling on people...
PP: WEDDING FEast at ...shoot.....
Kid: [Furious thinking face and lip tapping with finger]
Bill: Next?
Cecilia [smugly, staring at PP]: The Baptism in the Jordan River.
Bill: Very good. You can go ahead and lead. [Puts $20 back in his pocket.]
Cecilia: Wait! What? Don't I get $20?
Bill: No, I was holding a $20 bill. Did you think I was going to give it to you for knowing the mysteries of the rosary?

Family Rosary, Oct. 17, 2019

I think my family just invented the Spartan rosary--where everyone shouts their intentions over everyone else's noise and whoever's name God hears gets the graces.

Oct. 14, 2019, Family Rosary

Family rosary, sharing our intentions today:

Kid 1: For my friends
Kid 2: For Cecilia's friends
Bill: For M--- who is recovering from a kidney stone.
All kids simultaneously: What's a kidney stone? Yikes, what does that look like? Ugh, it hurts a lot? Wait, what does it look like, I couldn't hear? Where is your kidney? How is that different from a gall stone? What is gall? Where is your gall bladder? Where is your other bladder? What does it do? No, the other thing, what does *that* do? [and on and on]
....
Bill: ALL RIGHT! No more anatomy class. What other intentions do we have?

It sounded like a good idea at the time

Deacon Franco preaches a moving homily including an appeal that we should pray the rosary as a family each day. Bill and I say, "That's a great idea. Why not?"

Family Rosary, Day 1

Bill: We're going to start praying the rosary every night at 8pm. Everyone will state a prayer intention and then we will pray the mysteries of the day. What are your questions?
Kid 1: Who starts? I don't have to start it, right?

Kid 2: Will mine work because it's broken and Mom never fixed it!

Kid 3: I'm just going to pray for the same thing every day.

Kid 4: I'm going to pray *for myself* every day, so there.

Kid 5: If I already pray the rosary every day, do I still have to pray with you guys?
Bill: ALL RIGHT! We're going to start praying the rosary every night at 8pm. Everyone will state a prayer intention. Your prayer intention has to be different every night. You may not pray for yourself...
Interrupting pest: Wait! What if I need prayers?1
Bill: ...If you pray for yourself, you must *also* pray for someone else. We will pray the mysteries of the day, and *I* will start and do the ending prayers. ANY QUESTIONS?
Me: Who in the world said, "The family that prays together, stays together????"
(Fr. Patrick Peyton did.)
Happy Feast of the Rosary!
Our Lady of Victory, pray for us!
